Follow up on Google Drive

I posted a couple of weeks ago about doing an inventory of all my counseling resources (using Google Drive) so I could find the things I need more easily.  Well, I finished said inventory at approximately 290 resources that included: games, lesson books and story books.  It took a week or so to enter everything in but it is SO WORTH IT!

As you can see below, I can now arrange the columns many different ways to search quickly for needed resources.  In the picture, I have it arranged by the "Area/Subject" column. I have a feeling I will arrange it this way most often.  I can quickly find everything I have regarding a topic, such as, "Anger." I can quickly find the resources around my office and have them readily available for planning.

I cannot tell you how excited this makes me!!!  I know I am a nerd about this kind of thing but this is just AWESOME!!!

If you don't mind putting a little time in at the front end, I HIGHLY recommend doing this type of inventory. What a time saver it will be when planning for the endless individuals, groups and class lessons!

If you have anything similar, please comment below and share your creation!

  1. Emily, I just came across your blog yesterday and am finding it so helpful! I am an elementary counselor in Denver, Colorado-one of only a few at the elementary level. I wonder if you are willing to let me have access to any of the Google docs you've created? I am especially always looking for more lessons to do with the kiddos. I also LOVE how you've organized your room and everything in it! Thanks so much for sharing. I can tell how much you love what you do!

    2. Emily-
I would also love to have access to your google docs. I love looking at your site to find Ida's and lessons. I am always looking for new lesson ideas and ways to organize materials and lessons. I will be starting my 2nd year as an elementary counselor when school resumes!

  2. I did this with my resources when I was in Maryland, it's great. Haven't had time to do it here in Texas yet (this is my first year here as a counselor). I will be making my list though, thank you.

  3. I have just begun toying with Google Docs and I love it. I had parents sign their children up for small group counseling on my website using it. It was great. I love your ideas, but am leery about Google. Can you recommend a good tutorial I can watch/use to become more confident? Thanks!!!!

  4. Hi! I just found your site on Pinterest. Such great ideas! You are so organized & creative! I will be moving 13+ years of stuff to a new, bigger room and really need to do an inventory. Thanks to a suggestion from my sister (a teacher) I purchased an Intelli-scanner years ago that will organize it all just by scanning the bar code. Since then I have also learned about Genius scan which is a free app, but I haven't really used either. Now that I'm moving and after seeing your inventory I have vowed to scan all the stuff that I am keeping. Thanks for the motivation and the ideas! -Kim (Clearwater, FL)
